Introduction

Civil engineering is perhaps the oldest of all engineering disciplines and the first to be recognized and developed as a field of study. The field encompasses the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of infrastructures and the alteration of natural geography to meet human needs. Nepalese academic institutions are dedicated to strengthening the academia and hence strongly believe that fostering research and publishing culture in an academic institution will help in development of academia as well as all round development.

Department of Civil Engineering (DCE), the oldest department under Institute of Engineering, Pulchowk Campus, Tribhuwan University for producing civil engineering graduates has been determined to provide a broadly-based education in civil engineering which is intrinsically supported by world-class research. Therefore, we plan to highly focus on research oriented project based learning, student-centric and innovative education, training and career build-up which have been instrumental in facilitating its graduates to compete well in the academia as well as in the professional field across the globe. Thus, we have decided to publish Departmental Biannual Open Access Journal entitled “Nepal Journal of Civil Engineering” (NJCE) - the flagship journal of the Civil Engineering Department. The Journal aims at providing an emerging channel for publication of original research so that the engineers can exchange and share professional, technical and academic knowledge on any aspect of Civil Engineering discipline.

Aims and Scope

NJCE is a national, multidisciplinary peer-reviewed academic journal for delivering and discussing original and current research results concerning the engineering and technological solutions of problems related to Civil Engineering. The aim of the journal is to:

  • Disseminate original, scientific, theoretical or applied research in the field of Civil Engineering.
  • Dispense a platform for publishing results and research with a strong empirical component.
  • Aqueduct the significant gap between research and practice by promoting the publication of original, novel, industry-relevant research.
  • Seek original and unpublished research papers based on theoretical or experimental works for the publication globally.
  • Publish original, theoretical and practical advances in Civil Engineering Fields.
  • Solicit original and unpublished research papers, based on theoretical or experimental works.

Subject areas suitable for publication include, but are not limited to the following fields:

  • Building Materials and Structures
  • Computational Mechanics
  • Physical and Computational Models in Civil Engineering
  • Geotechnical Engineering
  • Construction Technology
  • Properties of Engineering Materials
  • Structural and Design Engineering
  • Environmental Engineering
  • Water Resources Engineering
  • Information Technologies in Civil Engineering
  • Transportation Engineering
  • Earthquake Engineering
  • Disaster Risk Management
