Talk program-July 9, 2019

Prof. Dr. Henri Gavin from Duke University, Durham, North Carolina, USA delivered a scientific lecture on earthquake early warning at Pulchowk Campus. His research interests are in the fields of structural dynamics, earthquake engineering, nonlinear dynamics, seismic hazard mitigation for building contents, system identification, the statistical characterization of environmental loads including wind and earthquake, and optimal control with application to systems with controllable damping.

He has been working on earthquake early warning since long time. He is here in Nepal for 3 weeks. His research students from USA have already been here since 2 months and they have been doing a collaborative research works with our students. Through his enlightening lecture He has addressed major issues of earthquake early warning. The program detail was as follows.

Program Detail:

Guest: Prof. Dr. Henri Gavin, Ph.D., P.E. from the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science, Duke University,

Topic of Scientific Lecture: Robust methods for earthquake early warning

Program Date: 9th July 2019 (Tuesday)

Time: 4:00 pm onward

Venue: Department of Civil Engineering, Pulchowk Campus (F-Hall, GF, F-Block)

Thanks very much for all the participants who were in the today’s program. As per our attendance sheet, total number of participants were 140.

Talk program-June 20, 2019

We jointly organized a talk program at Pulchowk Campus. Thapathali Campus was a co-organizer of this program. Our B.E. graduate, Hom Nath Gharti from Princeton University was a guest. He delivered his wonderful lecture on co-seismic and post-earthquake deformation, earthquake induced gravity perturbation, gravity anomalies, magnetic anomalies and so on. In viewing of his presentation, He has been working towards the ground breaking research. It seemed that He has been working towards the some of the unsolved problems in the field of geophysics. The program detail was as follows.
